Time.

While many are starting the New Year with happiness, joy and hope for a bright future, new aspirations and beginnings, my heart is filled with disappointment and regret for how much time was lost and wasted in just one year. One year is plenty of time. One year is enough for us to fulfil our duties and obligations as true slaves of Allah (swt). One year is enough to give our all in worshipping our Rabb, our Creator, our Sustainer. Yet, it is still not enough. We still demand more time. But the more time we have, the more time we waste.

Why do we let our desires take over? Why do we let Shaytan play his tricks on us? Why have we become such sad creatures? Oh Allah, help us for we are in need of your assistance whereas You don't need us. In Surah Fatir, Allah (swt) says: O mankind! it is you who stand in need of Allâh, But Allâh is Rich (Free of all needs), Worthy of all praise.  If He willed, He could destroy you and bring about a new creation.  And that is not hard for Allâh. (Verses 15 - 17).

Let's reflect on how we spent our time last year.
How much time did you dedicate solely for worship?
Did you achieve all you wanted to do as planned?
Were you held back? Why? By whom?
How many times did you say 'I will do it, insha'Allah' but never got around to it?
Do you feel as though the times you claimed to be "busy" were actually "free" time?
We are filling our days with unnecessary tasks and activities that fills up our days. We think we are busy when really we are not. Honestly, we are the cause of our own misery.

That said, we also have the ability to turn that around. “For Allah will never change the grace which He has bestowed on a people until they change what is in themselves: and verily Allah is He Who hears and knows (all things).” [Sûrah al-Anfâl: 53]

We need to purify our hearts and our intentions.
We need to put ourselves first before others. Remember, it is YOU who will be questioned on the Day of Judgement. It is YOU who will die alone and only your good deeds will come with you.
We need to constantly seek refuge from Shaytan and his whisperings.
We need to seek refuge in Allah and ask of His protection. His help.
Make dua. Lots and lots of dua.

This advice is for myself first before anyone else.
