Alhamdulilah. Praise be only to Allah (swt), Most Glorious, Most Merciful.
I had my graduation ceremony on Tuesday.
Now, welcome to reality.

I was going to post pictures of my uni, The University of Melbourne for you all to see. It's such a beautiful place mashaAllah. I'm quite saddened that I will not longer be going there. Unfortunately, there will be no photos today. My house was broken into. They stole my mum's laptop, her jewellery, and my beloved camera. My sweet Canon DSLR. We estimated it was around $20,000 worth of stolen goods. SubhanAllah. To Allah (swt) we belong and unto Him we return. Let us remind ourselves that nothing we own is ours. They can take whatever they want from me, the only thing they can't take away is my iman and my love for Allah (swt). That, only He can take away if He wills. Oh Allah, please protect me and all of my brothers and sisters in Islam from kufr. There are two things I truly fear most, death and falling into disbelieve. A'oozubillah.

Even though I had something I loved dearly taken away from me, I'm in an extremely generous mood. Alhamdulilah. So you better take advantage of it. Muslims love free stuff, don't they? I know I do.

Here's what I have to give you. To two of you. One to someone living within the US and one to someone living anywhere in the world!

(Click on the image to find out more)

I just received mine in the mail a few days ago and I'm totally loving it. I've been anxiously waiting for the past few weeks for it. Alhamdulilah the wait was worth it.

All you need to do is leave a comment with your favourite Ayat, Hadith or Islamic quote,
your email and location,
and one of these could be yours.

I was supposed to have a giveaway almost two months ago. Alhamdulilah it couldn't have been at a better time... What a way to celebrate Phase Two of my life. I wonder what 2011 brings. I wonder what I aim to achieve in that year. I wonder who I'll be by the time I'm 21. I only hope that I become wiser. better. more knowledgeable. stronger. independent. determined. Insha'Allah.

  1. Oh no!! They even took your camera?! I would be soooo down right now if I were you but mashaAllah you are so, so strong.

I hope they catch those idiots. They can't run forever.

Well anyhoo, on to the happy news =)

Congratulations on your graduation dearie! You made it! I was meant to have my graduation ceremony this week as well. 18th December. But I think I might continue my studies because a part of me can't imagine leaving Uni just yet. InshaAllah, if all goes to plan.

    What's next for you?

  2. Ooh will be submitting my entry for the giveaway soon ;) There's just too many to choose from!

  3. Salam sis,

Yes I'm quite surprised at myself that I'm handling the situation pretty well. I think it was because I didn't let myself get too attached to it as I was afraid I might lose it one day. Alhamdulilah.

MashaAllah you're not done yet? What do you plan on studying? I am going to take the year off inshaAllah. I'm not finished with my studies as well but I think I need a break to clear my mind. :)

  4. Salam Alaikum, dear LoveAndSugar :)

Let us remind ourselves that nothing we own is ours...SubhanAllah, that is so true.

I dont remember my fave hadith or ayah, too much to choose from, and I am in a sentimental mood so everything makes me cry, every hadith and ayah and quotes are my favorite at this very moment. A 5 years old boy can pee on some ants right now and i'll cry for the ants, seriously *cries*

But I do remember a quote from an Indonesian preacher because of your experience (thank you for reminding me of it).
    He said ;
--Let's live in this world like a parking lot boy (a boy who watch over the car at the parking lot). When a car comes (no matter how ugly that is) he will look out for it, and when the owner wants to take it back (no matter pretty the car is) he will smile and say good bye sincerely--

    Wallahu alam.

Be strong sister, may Allah rewards you with better things, inshaAllah

  5. salamo aleikom wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu

mashaAllah for your achievements and patience =) may Allah grant you even more in this life and the hereafter, ameen.

also, love the new blog, mashaAllah =)

i, myself, want to buy a DSLR... subhanAllah, someone stole my HDR Sony handycam as well when i made Hijrah to Egypt =( I believe they stole it in Istanbul, since they knew i was just passing by and would be directed to Cairo...

my disappointment wasn't much because of the camera but because it was one of the few gifts my father gave to me and he was actually having financial problems when he offered me the camera and also because the camera was stolen in a supposed Muslim majority country... Anyway, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return.

i'm still trying to convince my hubby to buy me a DSLR though =P would be my first one, inshaAllah. (don't get me wrong, i'm not a shoppaholic at all, but when i REALLY want something, it usually costs much, since i'm more into technology. may Allah forgive me.)

one of my favorite ayaat: "And whoever fears Allah, He will make a way out for him. And will provide for him from where he could never imagine" (At-Talaq: 2-3)

i'm not going to give my e-mail or my location because i'm living with my in-laws and they wouldn't like me to give their home address or anything. so, just wanted to share the ayah =)

    jazakAllah Khair

    Take care

love you for the sake of Allah =)

  6. Assalamualaykum warahmatullahi wabarakatuhu,

Mabrook on making it to phase 2 of your life. May Allah make it full of barakah and khair in this life and the next. Ameen.

Well, I have many favorite quotes and ayaat but I love this one very much:

"Look down upon no soul for you know not what is in their heart"

It's the first quote I wrote in my quotes journal last year and I always refer back to it to remember where I was a few years ago and how Allah (S) blessed me and guided me to where I am today. Tazkiyah is one of the most important parts of our deen and one of the worst things for the nafs is always criticizing and looking down upon others. Allah (S) says that the only thing worthy of measuring is a person's taqwa and since we can't see a person's taqwa, there's nothing left for us to be judgmental about. Only Allah knows what is in our hearts and the hearts of every creation. This is especially relevant to me because in college, it's not uncommon to hear girls chit chatting about someone or commenting about people they may have issues with so I try to remind myself that I have many things I need to work on internally just as others do. This also helps with finding 70 excuses for our brothers and sisters in Islam because we know that the hypocrite finds faults while the believer looks for excuses. :)

I'm in the U.S. and I can email you my email inshaAllah :)

    Take care <3

  7. MashaAllah I'm enjoying reading your comments!

I also forgot to mention that the giveaway will be till next Friday inshaAllah.

As for location, I meant which country you live in so I know then I'll contact you personally if you've won. :)

  8. Assalaam Alaikum L&S,

Oh my gosh, I am so sorry to hear about the break in! That's awful. I hope that Insha'Allah the perpetrators will be brought to justice. And to Allah (SWT) we truly belong and to Him we will return. I'm so glad you had these words in your mind while thinking of your lost camera, because these ayah can apply toward material possessions as well, which of course were never really ours to begin with.

My entry may sound a little cliché, but the following ayaat of the Qur'an are truly my absolutely favorite. They've been with me through the ups and downs in life, and for this beautiful prayer I could not be more thankful, Alhumdulillah.

"Allah does not burden any human being with more than he is well able to bear: in his favour shall be whatever good he does, and against him whatever evil he does. O our Sustainer! Take us not to task if we forget or unwittingly do wrong! 'O our Sustainer! Lay not upon us a burden such as Thou didst lay upon those who lived before us!'"

    (Al-Baqarah - 286)

Hopefully the above verses may be of comfort to you as well sis, Insha'Allah.

Location - US of A. As for email, one can reach me via email through my contact form. =)

  9. Assalam alaykum sister!!

Insha'allah, you and your loved ones are well. I am so sorry you got your belongings stolen away. Allah tests us all and it sounds like you are passing the test, alhamdullilah!

Thanks for giving me the link to your new url. I love the look of your blog. . .super cute!!

I will keep this short and sweet. My all time favorite ayah:

"Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest." -13:28

You have my email and I'm from the US :)

  11. Assalamu Alaykum sister,

Well, I'm a brother from India who just stumbled by your blog. I hope you won't mind if I take part in this giveaway cuz your condition says "someone living anywhere in the world!".

One of my favorites is a heart-touching dua. Here it is:

O Allah! Increase in me Your love over the love of all other things, exceed in me Your fear over the fear of all other things and exceed my eagerness to meet You over all the worldly desires, And when the eyes of the people of the world are cooled by their world, place the coolness of my eyes in Your worship.
    Say Ameen!

  12. Salam, love both your blogs but I never really comment! I'm sorry about the robbery but MashaAllah you are coping really well :) Just wanted to say that I bought the calendar for Eid ul Fitr and it's really really good, mashaAllah, enjoy reading the verse for each day and reflecting upon it. InshaAllah you will get rewarded whenever the people who win act upon each verse :))

  13. Salaam! There are many hadiths that I love but I found this one about 3 weeks ago and it touched me and made me think about the life of this world and how meaningless it is compared to the life of the Hereafter.

The rewards one will get in Jannah is far better than all the luxury in this dunya, so much so that he or she will forget about all their struggles and hardship on Earth. SubhanAllah.

There is always a reason to say "Alhamdulillah" for as long as we are Muslims and possess iman.

"On the Day of Resurrection a person from the people of the Fire, who had been living the most comfortable and luxurious life in the world, will be brought, and dipped once in the Fire. The he will be asked: O son of Adam! Do you recall seeing any good, a moment of comfort or luxury? He will reply: No by Allah, O my Rabb!

And a person from the people of Paradise, who had been living the most distressful life, will be brought (and) dipped once in Paradise. Then he will be asked: Have you experienced any misfortune? Has any distress come your way? To which he will reply: No by Allah, O my Rabb! No misfortune has ever come my way and I have never experienced any distress."

p.s. This is a really good idea for the giveaway!

  14. salamunalaikum.

    My Favourite ayat is Ayat-ul-Kursi.

Favourite hadith is 'A Muslim is the one from whose hands and tongue other Muslims are safe'.

My favorite Islamic quote is "This worldly life is but a moment, so make it a moment of obedience." Imam Ash-Shaafi'ee

  15. Asalamu alaikum L&S,

First, i'm sad to hear about the incident. It's great that you've looked past it and don't hold any grudges, but those who have committed that atrocity must be caught and punished! I know i'd be very bummed if it had happened to me.

Now on to the competition. The following Ayah is one of my favorites because not only does it allow us to acknowledge and contemplate on one of Allah (SWT)'s traits (compassion) but it is also a Dua which gives us the chance to ask Him for forgiveness for things we might look-over in our other daily dua's. And it has also given me great peace of mind when i've recited it before sleep.

    "On no soul doth Allah place a burden greater than it can bear. It gets every good that it earns and it suffers every ill that it earns. (Pray): "Our Lord! condemn us not if we forget or fall into error; our Lord! Lay not on us a burden like that which Thou didst lay on those before us; Our Lord! lay not on us a burden greater than we have strength to bear. Blot out our sins and grant us forgiveness. Have mercy on us. Thou art our Protector; help us against those who stand against faith." {Al-Baqara [2:286] }

Btw, this is a a great giveaway and whoever the winners will be will be very lucky!

  16. I love this du'a which you can find in 'Fortress of Muslim'.
Invocations in times of worry and grief.

"O Allah, I am Your slave and the son of Your male slave and the son of your female slave. My forehead is in Your Hand (i.e. You have control over me). Your Judgement upon me is assured and Your Decree concerning me is just. I ask You by every Name that You have named Yourself with, revealed in Your Book, taught any one of Your creation or kept unto Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen that is with You, to make the Qur'an the spring of my heart, and the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness and the reliever of my distress."
